How to take photos of your painting with your phone

Taking a good photo of your painting is the first step to making it look amazing on products. Follow these steps for the best results:
Lighting is Key
Use natural daylight if possible. Place your painting near a bright window, but avoid direct sunlight (which can cause glare and harsh shadows).
If indoors, use two lamps on either side of the painting for even lighting.
Avoid Shadows & Glare
Make sure your body, phone, or frame isn’t casting shadows on the painting.
If your painting has glossy paint, tilt it slightly to avoid reflections.
Set Up Your Painting
Place the painting flat against a wall or on an easel.
Ensure it’s upright and straight.
Position Your Phone
Hold your phone camera parallel to the painting (not at an angle).
Fill the screen with the painting—crop out the background as much as possible.
Focus & Stability
Tap the screen where the painting is to focus the camera.
Hold your phone steady or use a tripod/stand if available.
Take Multiple Shots
Snap several photos at slightly different angles and distances.
Choose the sharpest and most evenly lit one.
Save in High Quality
Make sure your phone is set to the highest photo resolution.
Send us the full-size image file (not a screenshot or compressed version).

Quick Guide for taking photos

✅ Do This
Good Lighting – Use natural daylight near a window, or two lamps on either side.
No Shadows – Check that you and your phone aren’t casting shadows.
Straight On – Hold the phone camera directly in front of the painting (parallel, not tilted).
Fill the Frame – Crop out extra background so the painting fills the photo.
High Resolution – Always send the full-size photo, not a screenshot.
❌ Don’t Do This
Don’t take the picture in dim light.
Don’t use flash (it causes glare).
Don’t angle the camera (distorts the painting).
Don’t crop too tight or cut off edges.
